Our specialist Pharmaceutical team has successfully placed over 1,600 candidates in new roles across the Pharmaceutical and Medical Communications industries since 2002. We offer a premium recruitment service to the pharma and 3rd party service sectors, working with a variety of organisations across the UK, Europe, USA and China.

We have a detailed knowledge of the whole drug development process, from early concept and pre-clinical / clinical trials through to commercialisation, international supply chains and medical communications.

We have the expertise and resources to fill permanent, contract and temporary positions, from Graduate to Director level. Our consultants work in full compliance with REC / APSCo guidelines and operate with complete confidentiality at all times. We provide professional representation to our candidates and clients by offering informative guidance on market conditions, in what is a very competitive, ever-changing and endlessly fascinating market place. It is this client-focused approach that means we have partnered with a number of organisations for more than 10 years and are often the only agency they will use.

As a collective, the Pharmaceutical team covers all disciplines at all levels in the industry, encompassing drug discovery and development through to post licensing activities, including GxP operations. Approximately 50% of our focus is on pharmaceutical / generic / biotech companies and 50% on service providers with a 50/50 split between permanent and contract / temporary activity. We welcome candidates from any area of the industry, no matter how experienced. Each member of the Pharmaceutical team has their own specific areas of expertise, meaning that we can work together to fill any kind of vacancy.

The SLS Pharmaceutical Team consists of the following personnel (in order of service):

Brian Tappy has 22 years' recruitment experience, all gained with SLS. Brian founded the Pharmaceutical team in 2002 and specialises in Clinical Trial Supplies, IxRS Technology, Project Management, Business Development, Quality, Engineering and Logistics. Brian has a strong reputation within the UK industry and can offer creative ideas to permanent and contract recruitment based on his extensive experience.

Steve Twinley heads the Pharmaceutical team. Joining SLS in 2006 following graduation, Steve has 9 years' recruitment experience and was awarded a Directorship in 2012. He has a first class degree in Psychology from Oxford University and is a qualified Psychodynamic Counsellor. Steve’s recruitment focus covers technical areas including Formulation & Development, Packaging Technology, Operational Excellence / Continuous Improvement, GxP Quality, Validation, Pharmacovigilance, Medical Information and Regulatory Affairs.

James Hume has a degree in Geology and specialises in a range of disciplines within the Biotech, Biopharmaceutical and Scientific Research & Development sectors. James has a passion for scientific research and offers the ability to undertake any kind of recruitment project, whether it relates to Stratified Medicine, GMP / GLP / GDP operations, QMS implementation, Business Development or Regulatory Affairs.

Sarah Memery has a degree in Media & Information and is a Senior Recruitment Consultant, heading recruitment for the Medical Communications Division. Areas include Medical Education, Healthcare Advertising, Healthcare Public Relations, Digital and Market Access. Sarah has an extensive network of communication specialists that include Medical Writers / Editors, Client Service professionals, Creatives, Scientific Directors and Analysts. She works closely with Medical Communication agencies across the UK, understanding their specific ways of working, areas of focus and the types of people they like to employ.

Julie Nicholls is a Med Comms Specialist, guiding Writers, Editors, Account Execs / Managers and Creatives through the ever-changing and fast-paced world of Medical Communications / Medical Education. Julie joined us with no previous experience in Recruitment or Med Comms and has shown enormous aptitude for this industry and offers a confidential, up-to-the-minute insight into the Med Comms industry across London, Manchester and other locations.
